Actress, director of film "The Housemaid" wins at film fest in Philippines

Veteran actress Youn Yuh-jung and director Im Sang-soo of film "The Housemaid - 2010" were honored at the 12th Cinemanila International Film Festival last week.

According to the official website of the film fest, Yoon and Im won awards under the international competition category for best actress and director, respectively, at the fest held on December 4 at the Robinsons Movieworld Galleria in Quezon City.

The annual Cinemanila International Film Festival, established in 1999 by Filipino filmmaker Amable Aguiluz, screens over 50 international and local current to indie films for five days. The event also features various workshops, seminars and master classes for the audience.

"The Housemaid - 2010", a remake of the classic 1960s film by the late director Kim Ki-young, is about a young woman who is hired to work for a wealthy family and begins to have an affair with the man of the household.

The erotic thriller which stars 2007 Cannes best actress award-winner Jeon Do-yeon, Lee Jung-jae, Youn Yuh-jung and Seo Woo, attracted over 2.3 million moviegoers during its run which totals to about 17 billion Korean won since its opening in local theaters on May 13.

The film also competed at the Cannes Film Festival in May and was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival in September as well as being invited to the Chicago International Film Festival in October. It will be released overseas in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, France and the United States.
