Agencies Working on Follow-ups to Media Reform Bill

2009/07/23 | 116 views | Permalink | Source

The Culture Ministry and the Korea Communications Commission have begun devising follow-up measures to a media reform bill railroaded through the National Assembly on Wednesday.

The communications commission is reviewing new rules on broadcasting and IPTV operations following the passage of the media reform bill. The new revisions, which will allow newspapers and corporate entities the opportunity to own stakes in broadcasters, are expected to pave the way for the overhaul of the media sector.

The commission will finalize a plan to create new broadcasting channels by next month as scheduled. New channel operators will be selected by November.

The Culture Ministry plans to complete by the end of this year the revision of rules and regulations in accordance with the media bills.
