Animation industry seeking to improve the broadcasting market

2007/12/03 Source

Korean animation has been exported to many countries where animation has been traditionally strong, such as the U.S.A., Japan, and European countries, and its status in the global animation market is becoming stronger than ever. Despite such growth, however, the Korean domestic animation market is grappling with the country's rigid broadcasting market, which has shown little interest in animation.

To overcome such problem, the Korean animation industry, led by Seoul Animation Center and Korea Animation Producers Association (KAPA), will hold another seminar on improving the environment of the Korean broadcasting market. Dubbed "Seminar on Successful Cases of Korean Animation in Foreign Markets and on Plans to Improve the Korean Broadcasting Market", the seminar will be held on December 5 at Seoul Ani-Cinema in Namsan.

Participating in the seminar are Kim, Yeong-Jae, professor of Cultural Content Studies at Hanyang University, who will deliver the keynote presentation; Kang, Mun-Jo, Vice President of Sunwoo Entertainment; Kim, Sun-Tae, Executive Director of Heewon Entertainment; Lee, Byung-Gyu, Executive Director of iConix; and Lee, Dong-Ho, Director of Seoul Animation Center's Digital Contents Team.

"Now is the time to examine the current conditions of Korean original animations that are on top of the world's animation industry, and to lay out plans to improve the poor Korean broadcasting environment, so that we can come up with new steps in developing Korean animation", said the organizers.
