Animation Production Studio relocates to the Cultural Content Center in Sangam

The Animation Production Studio operated by KOCCA has recently relocated to the DMC Cultural Content Center in Sangam and has begun to consolidate its status as a representative Korean animation infrastructure facility.

Since its launch in February in Mok-dong, the Animation Production Studio has provided support through all the necessary environments required in animation production, from production cost, production facilities to equipment. Particularly, the studio offers a resident project manager (PM) who has had extensive experiences in animation production, completing the studio's comprehensive production support system.

Every year the studio is busy with about 10 animations in production. So far this year, eight animations have been completed and another eight are in production. Completed works already broadcast on TV include Mimi and Data's Art Expedition, The Day I had My Tooth Taken Out, Myo & Ga, Hyeja's Snow Flower, and Ordinary Life of Murim Ilgeom.

In addition to Ordinary Life of Murim Ilgeom and Mad Monkey, Wanted has also been invited to major Korean and foreign animation film festivals including the Venice International Film Festival, Animadrid, the Asiana International Short Film Festival, and Bucheon International Student Animation Festival. Particularly, the DVD of Ordinary Life of Murim Ilgeom is about to be released in Japan, and Mad Monkey is currently under negotiation for an OVA release in the USA and Japan. Myo & Ga is being prepared for character licensing.

The number of successful production studios advancing into the industry has also increased. Many of them are small- and medium-sized teams, consisting of highly talented animators, and showing a marked development with their unique production style. Electric Circuit, producer of Wanted, is currently developing a TV series, and Bede Korea of Mimi and Data's Art Expedition is in the production of Lamimila, a Korea-France joint project using a digital cut-out process. The production team of Hyeja's Snow Flower is working on an animation that uses traditional Korean painting techniques to revive the Dano Festival in Gangneung. The people behind Myo & Ga have all been recruited by VOOZ, a major Korean cultural content company.

Based on such successful results, the Animation Production Studio is planning to further its animation production support in Sangam in the future. "The better and more spacious working environment will speed up the completion of projects of teams currently in residency", said Kim, Seong-Wook, Project Manager in the studio. "The Cultural Content Center in Sangam will also serve as a hub in which related companies and facilities can be connected and create an organic relationship".
