[Animation] Who is the Best Character - Robot Taekwon V, Dooly or Pororo?

The 'Best Character' will be chosen to represent Korea from among many familiar Korean characters - including Robot Taekwon V, Dooly the Baby Dinosaur, and Pororo the Little Penguin.

The Seoul Metropolitan City announced on December 29 that it is currently conducting a vote among netizens to choose 'Korea's 100 Best Characters' from 110 pre-selected candidates with the cooperation of the Seoul Business Agency and the Seoul Animation Center.

Prior to the vote, the Seoul Business Agency formed a selecting committee composed of fifteen experts in manhwa (Korean cartoons and comics), animations, games and characters. Earlier this month, the committee pre-selected 110 candidates on the basis of their historical value, status in the industry, and potential in each field.

The following works were included in the field of manhwa: Gobau Yeonggam (Sir Go Ba-U) (Kim Seong-hwan), which is regarded as the best political cartoon, Young-shim Yi (Bae Geum-taek), the number one comic based on a puppy love story, Kkachi O Hye-seong (Lee Hyeon-se), the story of a fearless baseball team, and Dooly (Kim Su-jeong), about a baby dinosaur.

In the field of animation, the penguin Pororo, Pororo's dinosaur friend Crong, Fart King Ppwung Ppwung, and Cocomong of Fresh World Cocomong were included in the list of candidates. Pucca and Mashimaro were included as candidates for the field of characters, while Bazzi and Dao from KartRider were included in the field of games.

The voting will continue at the portal site Daum (http://www.daum.net) until January 19, 2010. The Seoul Business Agency will add the results of the vote to the evaluation scores of the selecting committee, to make the final selection of Korea's 100 Super Characters.

The results will be announced in early February.

The Seoul Business Agency will also announce the Koreans' 100 Favorite Characters, which will be determined only based on the result of the netizens' vote.

A staff member of the Seoul Metropolitan City said, "This project was set up with the goal of selecting the character that best represents Korea in much the same way that globally popular characters such as Mickey Mouse (USA) and Hello Kitty (Japan) represent their respective countries of origin.

We are committed to conducting active marketing strategies to promote the selected characters at home and abroad".
