Annecy Festival to Hold "Honoring Korea" Event

Annecy International Animation Festival will hold an event honoring Korea this year. Annecy Festival is the most renowned festival in the animation industry, and it will be held from June 7 through 12 in Annecy, France, this year.

After Australia, Canada, Great Britain and Japan, Korea will be taking pride of place at this year's Festival. It is expected to be the biggest special event in Annecy's history.

Films to be screened were selected based on the new trend and accomplishments. Among the five conte animations - Oseam, Empress Chung, Hammerboy, Marie's Story, and Wonderful Days - Empress Chung will be screened at Petite Salle and the others will be showed at Salle Jean Renoir.

47 morceau animations will be showed through four sessions of "A Little Madness", "My Childhood", "Think Twice and Laugh", and "Making Styles".

A press conference and a professional meeting dedicated to Korean animation are planned, too. The press conference scheduled on June 8 will be lead by the artistic director Serge Bromberg, with KOFIC director Lee Chung-jik and Korean directors to introduce the universe of Korean animation and government policies to the world.


`Oseam`
A film conference titled "From Cartoon to Hyperrealism in 3-D Animation" will be held on June 9. The director of Wonderful Days Kim Mun-saeng and foreign experts will participate in this round of discussions.

A reception party titled "Night of Korean Animations" is planned with many world-class personnel on the guest list, and the Korean Animation Exhibition Center will be placed within the Bonlieu during the festival.
Seoul and Annecy plan to sign a joint-declaration to promote the exchange and cooperation in the animation industry of the two cities. Lee Myeong-bak mayor will visit Annecy and join the opening reception for that matter.

KOFIC made an announcement about the news on the special event on Korea on May 31. Director Lee stated, "The [Honoring Korea] event is the reflection of accomplishment that the Korean animation industry has made since 1997".

The director of Oseam Seong Baek-yeop commented, "The fact that the world is showing interest in Korean thematic materials is hopeful news to the Korean animation industry. It will be a good opportunity to introduce our animations to the world".
