Arirang's Digital Terrestrial Television (DTV) service will begin as of 6 p.m. Tuesday for about 1.5 million viewers in Washington, Virginia and Maryland through MHz 30-9, Comcast 280 and Cox 479, the group said in a statement.

Arirang TV has been showing programming to more than 10 million viewers in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Atlanta and San Jose since 2009.

Several foreign broadcasting companies are already providing DTV service in the metropolitan Washington area. Among them are NHK World, France 24, Russia Today, VTV4 and Al Jazeera.

"We hope that our service will help provide information and culture on Korea not only to Americans but to second and third generation Korean-Americans", the statement said, adding Arirang TV will also expand its DTV service in Asia and Europe in the near future.
