Art and Culture

It's the start of a new week once again and finally the weather is warming up.
When it gets this warm outside, many of us want to just go out and enjoy exhibitions, concerts, and new movies.
To help us, confused souls, stay on track in arts and culture Michelle Kim joins me in the studio.
Hello, Michelle.

[Reporter : ] Hello Conn-young

What do you have for us today ?

[Reporter : ] There's the phrase "Dogs are a man's best friend" and as an owner of two dogs, I very much agree with this. Well to give us an artistic insight on the subject of man, animals, and nature as well, I have two exhibitions for you. Here are the details.

Artworks that portray daily life have a very comforting and natural charm. These two exhibitions tell the stories of people, nature, and animals with an authentic appeal.

It seems as if the shirts are folded casually, without any purpose, but the face of a dog can be seen. The shirts are also spotted, to accentuate the texture and feeling of the materials.

One of the paintings of the dog is surrounded by ink, brush, paper, and inkstone makes the mutt look like a middle-aged scholar and another sculpture of a dog stepping on red balloons shows off the animal's comical and naive smile.

All of the paintings and sculptures at this exhibition convey the friendly image of dogs.

[Interview : Lim Dae-sik, Curator Gallery Artside] "This is a look at human's most popular companion animal throughout history. In these modern times when we see less of people's human side, the dog's loyal personality offers an even more of a humane touch".

Oh Kyung-duk's private exhibition shows the peacefulness of the people's lives living in nature. The people are may from hay and the mountains and trees are made from sticks, stones and dirt portray the old-fashioned and traditional beauty.

With familiar objects and scenery, the two exhibitions portray the relationship between people and animals.

[Reporter : ] The exhibition Gyun In Ji Ae will be held at the Gallery Artside until May 4th and the Oh Kyung-duk private exhibition will be held at the United Gallery until tomorrow the 17th.

I personally love dogs and I also very much agree with the statement that "Dogs are a man's best friend" so I think i'm going to really enjoy looking at all of the sculptures and paintings at thsi exhibition.

[Reporter : ] Me too. I might have to fight the urge to steal a piece and bring it home with me. And with the private exhibition, I personally find it fascinating that artists can make such beautiful artwork with such ordinary materials like dirt, sticks, and stone. I would try it at home but you know, it just doesn't turn out the same.

I'm also not an artistic person as well so I very much feel your pain. And moving on, what else do you have for us today

Arirang

[Reporter : ] Moving on to music updates, a military song, "A Great Man" has been widely known to not just soldiers but also to Korean citizens as well. After 30 years, the song has been re-arranged and sung by famous singer serving the army right now.

Even though you may have not been in the Army, you probably will be familiar with the marching song, "A Great Man". The army had recently remade this song with a more modern appeal.

Koreans who have served in the military are very familiar with the song. Made during the 80s, "A Great Man" bolstered the spirits of soldiers during that generation. However, this song seems a bit too archaic for the next generation of young men to relate to today.

To make the song more hip and relatable to the younger generation, the military song has been remade so that the younger soldiers and the citizens will like to listen and sing along with it.

Producer Jung Jae-il arranged the piece, and singer Park Hyo-shin and Ryoo Seung-chan and actor Kim Ji-hoon-I sang the song together.

The music video of this remade piece features military personnel and the honor guards to show the bright future of the military.

The song, "A Great Guy" can be found on the Ministry of National Defense's Facebook page, YouTube channels, and more.

So how does this song sound now[Reporter : ] Well I heard the song and I watched the music video on YouTube and the song mixes the old melody to the new so you can hear Park Hyo-shin angelic voice and Mizra Jin from Dynamic Duo rapping as the old tune is comes out like a chant in the background.

I will definitely check YouTube and listen to this new version of "A Great Guy". And now you have the events bulletin for us

Arirang
