Art and Culture

It's Friday and it's finally the end of the week. For our final arts and culture segment of the week, Michelle Kim is here with a movie preview and news about the new album by Leona Lewis.

Hello Michelle

[Reporter : ] Hello Han-ul

So what movie do you have for us today[Reporter : ] "Alex Cross" is a new mystery thriller with an unlikely star that's being released today in the U.S. for those of you looking for something to see this weekend. Take a look.

If you think Tyler Perry only writes, directs and stars in his own movies, then his turn as a tough guy detective in his new film "Alex Cross", which he did not direct, may come as a surprise.
The film follows a young homicide detective and psychologist named Alex Cross, played by Perry, and his search for a serial killer, played by Matthew Fox.
At the premiere in Los Angeles on Monday night, Perry said he was confident he could pull it off.

[Interview : Tyler Perry, Actor] "Once I read the script, I realized that if I can't do this than I wouldn't even attempt to do it. But, what was great is that I could do it and this guy, director Rob Cohan, believed in me and everybody believed in me and it all worked out well".

James Patterson, the author of the novels on which the Alex Cross character is based and a producer of the film, said he had few doubts about Perry's ability to shine in the role.

[Interview : James Patterson, Producer] "I knew when I met him that he would be able to do this", said Patterson. "He is the strongest willed person that I have ever met and I could just tell. The minute that you saw dailies, you just knew".

"Alex Cross" opens today in the U.S.
You know, I'm okay with mysteries and I like action films, but thrillers aren't really my thing. Do you think people like me will be able to watch it[Reporter : ] Well, people like you and I who love action films but just can't handle the brutality may want to cover your eyes because the serial killer in this film certainly seems to have a thing for torture, and it looks like there are quite a few disturbing scenes throughout the movie.

I guess I'll skip it, but it's already gotten good reviews, so those of you who like the suspense of thrillers might want to check it out. And moving on, what else do you have for us[Reporter : ] Leona Lewis became a household name in 2006, when she competed on Britain's audition program "The X Factor". Since then she's topped music charts worldwide and has recently released her newest album in three years. Take a look.

It's been six years since Leona Lewis first stepped onto the music scene, but her fame and popularity show few signs of slowing down, as was evident at an album signing in London on Monday.
The singer met with a large number of fans who were gathered at the HMV entertainment retail store on Oxford Street to celebrate the release of her third studio album "Glassheart".
She told the press how she felt about releasing the album, which is her first since 2009's "Echo".

[Interview : Leona Lewis, Singer] "I feel good, I feel really excited that it's finally out. I think a lot of people have been waiting for it and I'm just excited that it's here and really, really proud of it and yeah it's great to be back again".

Lewis shot to fame in 2006, when she won the top prize in the 3rd season of "The X Factor".
She went on to become a multi-platinum selling artist and a three-time Grammy Award nominee.
Her first single, "Bleeding Love", was the best-selling single world-wide in 2008.

"Glassheart" entered the UK singles chart at number seven, and the lead single "Trouble" was released last week.
Lewis plans to tour the UK next year, with the first concert scheduled for April 26.
I remember the song "Bleeding Love" and I remember liking it a lotbut I haven't listened to other songs by her. It's a good reminder to check out her newest album.

[Reporter : ] It's definitely an album worth listening to. I especially liked her song "Trouble", which showcases her powerful high soprano and it's absolutely impeccable. The song is very different from "Bleeding Love", which shows a deeper side of her voice and has a stronger beat going on in the background.

Sounds great. I'll have to get a copy of it. Well now, to wrap things up, you have the events bulletin for us[Reporter : ] I do. In today's bulletin, hip-hop duo Mighty Mouth performs a farewell concert at the end of the month, the Ultra Music Festival comes to Korea in December and two very talented musicians sing in a series of concerts over the holidays. Take a look.

[Reporter : ed: jenny] This bulletin features 3 events.

The hip-hop duo Mighty Mouth will play its first -- and last -- concert before one half of the pair goes off to serve in the military. The duo says it will give everything it's got to this last concert on October 26th at Ilchi Art Hall in Seoul.

Road to Ultra, one of the world's biggest electronic music festivals, will be heading to Korea on the 8th of December. Featuring world renowned DJs like Diplo, Major Lazer, Hardwell and Koo, the concert is at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in southern Seoul.

Singers Kim Bum-soo and Park Jung-hyun will be performing a holiday concert at Olympic Park's Gymnastics Stadium from December 23rd to 25th. The two musicians will aim to warm the hearts of their audience with songs about love, peace and the holiday season.
