Assembly sub-committee okays KBS TV subscription increase

By Kang Hyun-kyung

A parliamentary sub-committee passed a bill to raise the mandatory television subscription fee for KBS from the current 2,500 won to 3,500, Monday.

Members of the National Assembly Culture, Tourism and Sport Committee will hold a meeting to pass the measure Wednesday.

If approved, the bill will be sent to the Assembly Judiciary Committee before a vote in a plenary session.

Five sub-committee members out of eight voted for the measure.

The five were four Grand National Party lawmakers and one Liberty Forward Party member.

At the meeting, legislators of the main opposition Democratic Party didn't participate in the vote.

The subscription fee has remained unchanged over the past 30 years.
