Big budget movie "Yeongasi" begins filming

Filming for big-budget disaster movie "Yeongasi" commenced on Sunday, November 13th in Gyeongbuk province in eastern Korea.

The film, inspired by real-life parasites called "Yeongasi" or "horsehair worms", is top-billed by award-winning actor Kim Myung-min ("Detective K", 2011; "Beethoven Virus", 2008), who plays Jae Hyuk, a pharmaceutical agent who struggles to save his family from the epidemic caused by the mutated worms.

Also in the cast is Shinhwa member Kim Dong-wan ("The Peak", 2011; "Spin Kick", 2004), who plays the pivotal role of Jae Pil, a detective and younger brother of Jae Hyuk. Jae Pil discovers an important clue during his investigation of the horsehair worm disaster, which eventually leads him to help his brother.

According to MY Entertainment, Kim Myeon-min's agency, the first scenes filmed were those of Kim Dong-wan and his fellow police officers. Filming took place at a valley in Yeongdeok County, Gyeongbuk Province which is about 4 1/2 hours from Seoul.

"Yeongasi" is written and directed screenwriter-turned-director Park Jeong-woo ("Big Bang", 2007; "Dance With The Wind", 2004), and produced by Ozone Film ("Heartbeat", 2010; "Mister Socrates", 2005). Target release is June - July 2012.
