[BRIEFLY] 'Hello, Stranger' wins Lyon film awards

2008/11/17 | Permalink | Source

The Korean film, "Hello, Stranger", directed by Kim Dong-hyun-VI, garnered three awards at the 14th Lyon Asian Film Festival, which ended its five-day run on Nov. 9.

The film received the third place prize in the Best Feature Film category and second place finishes in the New Asian Cinema section and from the youth jury.

"Hello, Stranger" tells a story of a North Korean defector's unlikely bond with an illegal immigrant from Vietnam as they travel together from Seoul to Busan.

The film touches upon sensitive social issues such as the discrimination North Korean refugees and foreign laborers experience in contemporary Korean society.

Other Korean recipients from the festival included first place for the animated short "Stop", by Park Jae-wook and second place for the short film, "Han", directed by Na Hong-jin, the auteur behind the recent domestic box-office juggernaut "The Chaser".

Rounding out the top three of the Audience Awards was another Korean animated short, "Star Story: Six Shades of a Rainbow".
