Broadcasters Required to Divulge Company Data

Grand National Party lawmaker Bae Young-shik submitted a proposal to amend the Broadcasting Act and the Educational Broadcasting System Act to the National Assembly on Monday.

According to the proposal, the KBS and the EBS will be required to disclose company details, such as management objectives, budget plan, the number and salaries of executives and personnel, settlement of accounts, execution of budget, and audit reports.

"Despite being a public organization, the KBS and the EBS have been exempt from disclosure because of the exceptional clause of the Broadcasting Act. This has lead to ineffective running of the companies.

"Disclosure is a must for the transparent management of the company, and it will not infringe on the independence and freedom of media", said Bae.
