Building relationships through KOFIC's Asian Film Professionals Training Program

The Korean Film Council(KOFIC) has recently completed the second round of its Asian Film Professionals Training Program.

Designed to promote exhanges and increased understanding in the Asian region, the program places selected Asian film professionals into internship positions at KOFIC. During their stay in Korea, participants study Korean language, visit local film festivals, and make contacts with other professionals in the Korean film industry. In the long term, the program aims to promote increased levels of understanding and cooperation among various Asian film industries. The first round of the program, held in 2006, brought two professionals from China to serve six-month internships at KOFIC.

On June 21, the three participants in the second round of the program made concluding presentations to KOFIC chairperson AN Cheong-sook and other observers. The participants included Ms. Chuensumon DHAMANITAYAKUL, a PR officer at the Thai Film Foundation who spoke on "Korean Cinema's Situation in Thailand" and "Art, Independent and Low Budget Films' Situation in Korea and Thailand", Mr. G. Biju MOHAN, a documentary filmmaker and associate professor at the Jangangirabad Media Institute (India), who spoke on "The Distribution and Exhibition Sector in Indian Cinema", and Mr. Chandrashekhar JOSHI, film research officer at the Film and Television Institute of India, who spoke on "The Development of Indian Cinema".

During their stay, the three participants visited the KOFIC Namyangju Studio, the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA), the Korean Film Archive (KOFA), CJ Entertainment, the offices of the Pusan International Film Festival, the Busan Film Commission, and other organizations, in addition to attending the Jeonju International Film Festival.

Meanwhile, the third round of the program will recruit two professionals who will start their internships from October. The selection process for the third round is scheduled to take place from June 27 to July 31.
