Cannes Backs Anti-Quota Cut Protests
Published on | Source
The steering committee of the Cannes Film Festival is supporting South Korean protests against the planned screen quota cut in July.
In a board meeting Sunday in the French city, the committee in a news release said it unanimously voted to support the protest.
A group of South Korean actors, producers and directors opposing the cut said such support could have an effect on Seoul and Washington since the committee rarely takes a stance on an issue.
In January, Seoul agreed to halve the required number of days that theaters must screen domestic films in a move to expedite free trade talks with the United States.
