The Korea Disaster Relief Association said Sunday it received over 8,000 donations totaling W388.94 million on behalf of K-pop band BTS (US$1=W1,216). Since BTS member Suga, whose hometown is Daegu, made a donation of W100 million to the organization on Feb. 27, fans have voluntarily followed suit.

Actress Jun Ji-hyun also donated W100 million to the organization.

Actor Ji Chang-wook donated W100 million to the Daegu branch of the Korea Red Cross. Actors Kim Soo-hyun and Jung Hae-in also donated W100 million each to the Daegu branch of Community Chest of Korea.

Daegu has become a hotbed of infections since a so-called supercarrier, a follower of the secretive Shincheonji sect, was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Feb. 19.
