China imports SBS entertainment programs

A series of popular SBS entertainment programs have been sold to China.

SBS announced on March 23 that it had recently entered into a contract with Xintiandi Music Production Co., Ltd., Qingdao, China, and sold 52 episodes of 'Real Romance Love Letter' of the 'Real-time! Saturday' (broadcast on 5:50 PM, Saturday) for 500 dollars per episode.

SBS added that it had also sold its 'turnover drama' format of 'Good Sunday' (broadcast on 6:00 PM, Sunday) to Hunan TV.

Rarely are entertainment programs instead of dramas sold to foreign countries. '...Love Letter' will be broadcast for one year via the Chinese Travel Satellite TV and the format of the 'turnover drama' will be used to make a series of Chinese programs using local actors and to be broadcast on Hunan TV.

"While they were not highly priced contracts, they are symbolic in that the contracts involved the export of entertainment programs, instead of dramas, which may mean to be our opportunity for the expansion of the market", said Bae, Seong-rye, director of the SBS Content Management Team.
