Chinese Spinoff of My Sassy Girl

The popular Korean comedy My Sassy Girl (2001) will be remade again, this time into a television drama for Chinese television. The shooting of the drama is scheduled to start in September this year and it will be broadcast in 2007. Korea (production company K 1 Film) and Japan are also involved in the project.

At the same time, a Hollywood remake of My Sassy Girl is also being developed, by the Hollywood studio Gold Circle. The Hollywood and the Chinese versions of My Sassy Girl share more than the same source material, their schedules are similar too; the Hollywood remake will also start filming in the fall of this year and the release is planned for 2007.

My Sassy Girl was directed by Kwak Jae-yong and became a blockbuster in Korea in 2001, followed by great popularity in other Asian countries. Jun Ji-hyun played the female lead role and the film made her a pan-Asian star. The film was based on a popular Korean Internet novel.
