Classic Korean Movie Gorae Sanyang to be Screened in New York City

Chung-Mu-Ro Express: Classic Korean Cinema will be present the movie Gorae Sanyang ("Whale Hunting") at the Anthology Film Archives in New York City on Thursday, July 24, 2008. The free screening will begin at 6:30 p.m., with a total running time of 112 minutes.
Gorae Sanyang was directed by Bae Chang-ho in 1984. Curator Im Hyun-ock will introduce the program and lead a discussion after the screening. The film will be in Korean with English subtitles.
Lead actor Ahn Sung-ki is known in Korea as one of the nation's best. Since the 1980s, he has appeared in almost 100 movies, including "Two Cops" (1993) and "Hanbando" (2006).
Gorae Sanyang tells the story of Byeong-tae (Kim Soo-chul), a young man who meets a beggar named Min-woo (Ahn) and Choon-ja (Lee Mi-sook), a mute woman being abused by a group of thugs for refusing to serve them as customers. It is a moving story of a challenging journey in which they find a deep friendship and love. Byeong-tae finally realizes that whales do not live in the far away ocean but in his own heart.
