Fans from home and abroad gathered outside the military base to see him off.

Earlier, Jung tweeted a message about his impending enlistment to say goodbye to his fans.

Jung was accused of being admitted to a doctorate course at Kyunghee University in 2017 despite failing to show up for a mandatory interview test.

Police investigated whether Jung's pursuit of studies was an attempt to delay his mandatory military service.

Last month, Jung's management agency issued an apology in the wake of the controversy and the university canceled his admission.
