A typical criminal movie is equipped with highly skilled members and high-tech machinery, but not "Gate". Director Shin Jai-ho calls it the "Country Avengers" because of the clumsy characters in the movie.

So-eun (Jung Ryeo-won) resents her father and robber Jang-choon (Lee Kyung-young) who abandoned his family and her uncle Cheol-soo (Lee Moon-sik), but she eventually joins them as the brain of the team. The next-door idiot Gyoo-cheol (Im Chang-jung) lends them his house as a hide out and Min-wook (Jung Sang-hoon), who becomes a robber after getting robbed, joins the team.

They're not professionals so the traps they set up are quite hopeless. So-eun becomes a pervert to get the delivery man's attention and the rest of the team put sleeping powder in the food. However, the movie is a comical one to begin with, so these flaws are what makes the movie special.

An investigator who goes through government corruption loses his memory in an accident and becomes a dummy, then he wants to get involved with So-eun next door for no particular reason and Min-wook, a loan shark, falls for So-eun right away and offers her a great deal of money; all this is made to look funny in the movie.

Jung Sang-hoon's appearance is the best part. His transformation is amazing as it's his first villainous role of his career. He talks rough, but he looks so appealing and the one-man-show he puts on in the safe remains in people's heads even after the movie.

The appearance of a middle-aged woman who stores wealth through illegal methods resembles the government criminal Choi Soon-sil. However, the director and cast all say "Gate" is about nothing less and nothing more than a team of robbers fighting against injustice.

"Gate" is being released on the 28th.
