The Japanese comfort women movie "Spirits' Homecoming" is being shown in Washington, D.C. in front of many politicians and celebrity figures.
This movie was put out in the cold in Korea but is being released in the heart of America.
According to KACE, a Korean citizen association in the States, this movie will be screened in the American Federation Building on the 28th from noon to 2 PM and will be introduced to celebrate the passing of the comfort women resolution 8 years ago.
Congressman Honda took the lead of comfort women in 2007 and has shown much interest in the matter.
About 100 or so people will be at the screening.
A KACE source claims, "We plan on imprinting the story of the comfort women once again through "Spirits' Homecoming"".
The movie will be shortened by 5~6 minutes.
There's the disappointment of not being able to watch the movie in full but the meaning of this screening lies in the fact that an Amercian congressman has arranged for important personnel to gather in the heart of America for this movie.
While matters of the comfort women are still on the table, the matter didn't arouse any attention in Korea amongst politicians.
The same goes for the film industry.
The conversion has been set for August, but there isn't a single distributor who has shown interest.
The movie might not be 'commercial' enough but they are also worried about business in Japan in the future.
Hence, the ironic situation where America is the first to introduce the movie of comfort women.
"Spirits' Homecoming" means to bring back the souls of young women who died in a foreign land back home.
