Consumer Reports Crowns the Optimus G and Galaxy S3 as the World's Best Smartphones

Consumer Reports, the product-review magazine known for being tough on big brands, gave Samsung and LG's smartphones superb rankings in its recent electronics survey. LG's Optimus G was ranked as the world's best smartphone in Consumer Reports for two major US mobile carriers. Samsung's Galaxy S3 was ranked a very close second, beating out Apple's iPhone 5. All in all, it was a significant nod of respect for the quality of Korea's mobile handset makers.

On the AT&T network, the Optimus G ranked No. 1 with 79 points, the Galaxy S3 received 78 points, and the iPhone 5 received 77 points. The ranking order didn't change on the Sprint network, where the three smartphones received 77, 76, and 75 points, respectively.

In a landmark achievement for LG, this was the first time in history that Consumer Reports ranked an LG phone as No. 1 globally. The Optimus G boasts a 4.7-inch high-definition IPS+ display and uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 Pro processor on the fast LTE network. The magazine praised

both the Optimus G's display quality and long battery life.

Samsung's flagship phone, the Galaxy S3, earned its high score with its 4.8-inch, 1280 x 720 pixel, Super AMOLED HD screen and a fast Qualcomm 1.5GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 processor. It's no wonder that the Galaxy S3 unseated the iPhone to become the world's best-selling smartphone in the third quarter.
