Cruise Passengers to Busan Soar

The number of cruise passengers visiting Busan increased significantly in the first half of this year.

The Busan city government on Thursday said the number of tourists arriving in the port city on cruise ships rose 30.5 percent to 93,919 in the January to June period from 71,980 during the same period of last year.

Including crew, total visitors stood at 135,906, up 30.3 percent.

Some 32,046 passengers were from Japan, followed by the U.S. with 13,948, Taiwan with 10,033 and Australia with 8,663.

Taiwanese passengers increased by a whopping 212 percent -- the largest gain -- Australians 75 percent, Americans 40.1 percent and Japanese 19.2 percent.
