Cultural Festivities Celebrating 20 Years of Korea-Russia Ties Kick Off in Moscow

Culture ministers of Korea and Russia have agreed to designate 2010 which marks 20 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries as a year of active cultural exchange.
Hosted by the culture ministries of the two countries seven months of 'Korea-Russia Cultural Festivities' kicked off Thursday evening in Moscow with a special fashion show celebrating the eve of the opening ceremony scheduled for Friday.
World renowned Korean fashion designer, Lee Sang-bong unveiled his exclusive collection based on Russia's Cyrillic alphabet and the Korean alphabet, Hangeul in the form of famous verses by Korean poet Kim So-wol and Russian poet Alexander Pushkin.

[Interview : Lee Sang-bong, Fashion designer] "The encounter between Hangeul and Cyrillic and poets Kim So-wol and Pushkin symbolize the two cultures coming together in harmony".

And walking down the runway presenting Lie's cross-cultural creations were 26 Korean and Russian models highlighting decades of friendship.

[Interview : Sophia, Russian spectator] "It is absolutely beautiful and impressive. I'd like to go see another Korean fashion show when I have the chance".

Attending the fashion show were the visiting Korean delegation, including the Cultural Vice Minister, Shin Jae-min.
This year's festival marks the first government-level collaborative project between the two countries since Korea and Russia established diplomatic ties in 1990.
During the seven-month-long festival, both Koreans and Russians will be able to experience plenty of each other's culture in both nations ranging from music and dance to arts and movies.
Following a stylish grand evening the opening ceremony is set to take place at the historic Bolshoi Theater in Moscow Friday evening, local time officially beginning the half-a-year long Korea-Russia Cultural Flux.
