Culture Ministry Honors PIFF

Kim Dong-ho, director of the Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF), along with four other PIFF chief staff members will be decorated tomorrow by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for their contributions to the local movie industry.

Kim will receive the Ungwan Order of Cultural Merit, the second highest award of its kind. Culture medals will be handed out to Lee Yong-kwan, deputy director of PIFF; PIFF programmers Jay Jeon and Kim Ji-seok; and Park Kwang-su, director of the Busan Film Commission.

In its 10-year history, the annual Pusan fest held in the southern port city has grown to become what Time Magazine's Asian edition credits as "Asia's most important film event".

PIFF saw its most successful year ever this year screening 306 films from 73 countries and selling 192,970 seats, a record for the event.

The awards will be given out during a ceremony at 2 p.m. at the office of the minister of culture and tourism.
