Director Lidstone Highlights the Importance of Creative Industry

'Creative industry' this is a term that's still fairly new to many here in Korea.
What it refers to is a set of intertwined sectors that focuses on creating new unique property, content or design that previously did not exist.
Typically, the creative industry is comprised of sectors that deal with creating intellectual property products, such as music, books, film, games, architecture, software or even providing creative business services such as advertising, public relations and marketing.
The business of designing, making and selling objects or works of art such as jewellery, clothes, creative writing and fine arts also fall within the creative sector because the value of such items are derived from an original idea.

Creative & Cultural Entrepreneurship Goldsmith University ] "It's essentially taking those ideas and developing them into a market place and then being able to exploit them and sell them. And all of that now creates about 8.5 percent of the GDP of the UK so it's quite a big industry and it's the fastest growing industry in the UK".

According to Director Gerald Lidstone from Goldsmith University creative industries have been gradually increasing economic contribution as advanced countries struggle to compete in traditional markets like manufacturing that have become increasingly automated.
Lidstone says in the future it's the innovative, eccentric and original ideas and imaginations that will become the greatest assets of all countries.

And it is making decisions about whether it needs to invest in infrastructure for these areas and maybe at the moment it's thinking about wanting more evidence or proof that creative industries will deliver".

Korea is a country brimming with innovation but Lidstone says that in order for Korea to become one of the leading countries in this creative sector there needs to be a better educational system for nurturing critical thinkers and idea makers.
