Dragon Ball Evolution to Premiere in Korea

Korea is to be the first country to see the premiere of "Dragon Ball Evolution". Directed by James Wong known for the X Files movies and Final Destination 3, the movie stars Hong Kong superstar Chow Yun-fat of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon fame. The movie is produced by Steven Chow who has carved out his own genre of Asian action fantasy films such as Shaolin Soccer (2001) and Kung Fu Hustle (2004). The decision to premiere the movie in Korea could be a homage to Korean fans. The film's official 20th Century Fox press release says of Dragon Ball Z that it has "captivated millions of fans, of all ages, around the globe". This could not be truer of Korean consumers who have lapped up the phenomenon in their droves. The decision could also be based on the inclusion of Korean actor PARK Joon-Hyung, who plays Yamcha in the film. Park was a member of the mega boy band G.O.D that dominated the Korean pop charts earlier in the decade.

'Goku' Played by War of the World's Justin Chatwin sets out on mission to find the mystical seven Dragon Balls before they fall into the hands of the evil King Piccolo. However, he must first recruit the help of Master Roshi (Chow Yun-fat) who initially battles the young hero. The film is based on the manga that started in 1984 and went on to rack up over 500 episodes. Dragon Ball Evolution opens in Korea March 12.
