According to the Seoul City government, this house where former president Choi lived from 1973 to 2006 until he passed away, is registered as the 413rd cultural property. He actually lived in the house for 30 years not counting his tenure as the prime minister and the president. The site is 359.7 square meters with a small yard, and the two-story building is 330.05 square meters with a basement.

The city purchased the house from Choi's family in 2009 and received his belongings in order to preserve the former president's residence. The assorted 500 belongings include a wardrobe, fan, a cigar box, suits, and shoes as well as a sewing machine that his wife used. The house still displays the frugal life of Choi and his wife and the living conditions at that period in time.

The Seoul City government has opened the house to the public for free as a cultural area since October 2013. A guide service is available though reservation. "This cultural property invokes nostalgia to those who are old enough to remember the living conditions shown through Choi's belongings. Younger generations might find the property somewhat strange but somehow familiar", said Kang Hee-eun, the head of the Department of Historical and Cultural Properties, Seoul City Hall.
