Dutch Couple Wins EBS Documentary Festival Prize

A Dutch couple of film directors, Peter Lataster and Petra Lataster-Czisch last Saturday won the grand prize at the fifth EBS International Documentary Festival for their film "If We Knew". They will receive US$10,000 in prize money.

"If We Knew" is a story about pediatricians and nurses working in the premature babies ward of a Dutch hospital. It focuses on the infants in their incubators and the medical staff who agonize whether they should let the suffering babies die peacefully by removing their oxygen masks.

The Latasters

The Latasters met as director of photography and a screenwriter in 1989 and married in 1991. They founded Lataster Films in 2001 and have produced films such as "I Like to Touch Everything" and "Birth-Day". They won the Golden Calf Best Long Documentary at the Netherlands Film Festival in 1994 for documentary "Tales of a River".

In a statement, the Latasters said they were already happy to be in Korea, but it was a great honor to win the prize. They thanked the doctors and families of patients in the hospital and dedicated the prize to them.
