EBS Animation competes at the Annecy 2006 International Animated Film Festival

Korean animated films go to the Annecy 2006 International Animated Film Festival, often called the 'Cannes of Animation', to compete among other international animated films.

EBS's sex education animation for children, 'The Birds & The Bees - A Secret You Shouldn't Keep' (a co-production of EBS, Character Plan Co., Ltd., and Miracle) and the second series of 'Pororo, the Little Penguin "Don't Do That"' (a co-production of EBS, Hanaro Telecom Inc., OCON Inc., ICONIX Entertainment Co., Ltd., and Miracle), were nominated for the main competition category, EBS announced on Mar. 22.

'The Birds & The Bees..'. was nominated for the 'Education, Science, and Industry' category while 'Pororo..'. was nominated for the TV series category.

The Annecy International Animated Film Festival is a world-renowned international animated film festival held in Annecy, southeast France, and since its inception as the animated film category in the Cannes Film Festival in 1956, it became independent in 1960.

'My Beautiful Girl, Mary' by director Lee Seong-gang, and 'Oseam' by director Seong Baek-yeob had received the grand prize in the full-length animated film category in the festival. This year's festival will be held from June 5 to 10.

"'The Birds & The Bees..'. broadcast on EBS last June is a sex education program aimed at teaching children about sex as naturally as possible. The third episode, 'A Secret You Shouldn't Keep', talks about sexual harassment toward children", an official at EBS said.

"'Pororo..'., currently in broadcast since last Dec., is a 3D animated film that tells the story of Pororo, the Little Penguin and its six friends. Each episode runs 15 minutes and is aired every Monday and Tuesday at 9:00 AM", he added. The first series had been aired on 'TF1' Channel in France in 2005.
