"Cinema Paradise", a television program about movies that first went to air in 1994, is celebrating its 500th episode on Friday.

Broadcast at 10:20 a.m. on Fridays on EBS, the program has shown a variety of movies including documentaries, independent productions and art-house movies as well as films from Third World countries, most of which are not usually screened in local theaters.

The show has also devoted itself to redefining the merits of local films through retrospective studies of the works of directors such as Kim Ki-young, Ha Gil-jong, and Shin Sang-ok, and through monthly screenings of local short and independent films.

Friday's special program, entitled "10 Years of Korean Cinema, 10 Years of Cinema Paradise", will take a quick look at the history of local films from 1994 to 2003.

In addition, the most popular movies from each year, as well as the best lines from different productions, will also be announced. These were selected by both the makers and viewers of the program.

The guests will include Park Chan-wook, director of last year's hit, "Oldboy", Bong Joon-ho, and Moon So-ri, actress in the movie "The President's Barber". They will be discussing local movies.
