The EBS International Documentary Festival 2005 is on now in Seoul to Sept. 3. The festival was launched last year by EBS, the leading Korean public broadcaster, and is dedicated to the cultivation of documentary films.

Among the 98 documentaries from 30 countries, 94 will be broadcast by EBS channel and 31 pieces will be shown at the EBS-SPACE in the EBS main office.

EIDF will be presented under the theme, "Peace and Life in Asia". The festival will provide a unique opportunity for documentary producers to communicate and share appreciation of their works.

Fifteen selected films from among all the applicants will proceed to the main competition. A total prize of $40,000 will be awarded to the winner of four different competitions. Director Paul Kim and programmers Kevin and Minah Jeong will oversee the selection process.

"Documentaries have tremendous power to reveal truth and can have profound effects on societies and lives", said Kim. "It will be a pleasure to introduce these projects to local and international audiences through EIDF 2005".
