Ex-journalist becomes film archive director

Minister of Culture and Tourism Kim Myung-gon on Monday (Sept. 25) appointed Cho Seon-hee, 46, a veteran film journalist and novelist, as director of the Korean Film Archive (KOFA) until September 2009.

The new director started her career as a journalist at the Hapdong Tongshin, the predecessor of the Yonhap News Agency, in 1982. Cho also worked at the Hankyoreh newspaper and was a chief editor for Cine21, a movie weekly magazine. In 2000 she started a career as a novelist. Her books include "Passion and Anxiety" (Yeoljeonggwa Buran). She has also been working for the Green Film Festival in Seoul.

Cho has "deep understanding of films and vast experience in the field as well as strong drive to pursue projects", the ministry said in a statement. "We expect her to contribute hugely not only in preserving and restoring the film archives but also in pursuing new projects such as a museum to promote the film industry".
