Exhibition at Olympic Park to Honor Seo Taiji

A year-long exhibition dedicated to pop icon Seo Taiji will open at the Olympic Park in Seoul next month.

It is part of commemoration of the 20th anniversary of Seo's debut and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Recording Industry Association of Korea, Seo's management firm Seo Taiji Company, and fans.

Most of the budget will be coming from state coffers, the first time the government is providing subsidies to an event celebrating a living singer.

The exhibition will be filled with items representing Seo's career since he first appeared with Seo Taiji & Boys in 1992.

Seo's fans opened an online archive last year to celebrate the anniversary and in the singer's honor planted a copse in a part of Brazil suffering from deforestation.

Seo will turn up at the exhibition whenever he can, his agency said.

The celebrations seems to mark the end of hostilities between Seo and much of the rest of the recording industry. In 2002, Seo withdrew his membership from the Korea Music Copyright Association in protest at its decision to allow his songs to be parodied. He filed a suit for compensation which dragged on for over 10 years. It recently ended with KOMCA paying Seo W260 million in compensation (US$1=W1,134).

Last month, Seo announced that he will marry actress Lee Eun-sung, 16 years his junior.
