Fewer CEOs Graduated from Top 3 Universities

Four out of 10 CEOs at Korea's top 500 companies graduated from the top three universities in the country, a significantly smaller proportion than only two years ago.

Some 241 or 42.6 percent of 676 CEOs in the country's biggest companies are graduates of Seoul National, Korea and Yonsei universities, according to a survey by market researcher CEO Score out Wednesday.

SNU is the top alma mater with 131, followed by Korea (64) and Yonsei (46). But the combined proportion has fallen from 48.9 percent in 2017.

Next are Sungkyunkwan University (32), Hanyang University (26), Sogang University (21), Pusan National University (18), Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (15), and Kyungpook National and Yeungnam universities (13).

By region, the largest proportion or 129 CEOs came from Gyeongsang provinces, followed by Seoul (105), abroad (43), Jeolla provinces (40) and Chungcheong provinces (32).
