2005/10/24 | Permalink | Source

Korean movie 'Antarctic Journal (directed by Lim Pil-Seong)', starring Song Kang-Ho and Yoo Ji-Tae, won the Orient Express-Casa Asia Section Best Feature Film Award at the 38th Sitges International Film Festival 2005 in Catalonia Spain.

Sitges is reportedly one of the three 'Class A' European film competitions along with the Fantasporto festival in Portugal and the Brussels Fantastic Film Festival.

In 2003, 'The Uninvited' won 'Citizen Kane award' given to rookie directors, and last year director, Park Chan-Wook won the Best Film Award in the festival with his violent thriller 'Old Boy'.

Adding to last year's trend, a large number of Korean films are introduced in this year's 38th event.

'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' of Park Chan-Wook, 'A Bittersweet Life' and 'Voice Letter' are nominated in the Official Fantastic Section. 'Antarctic Journal' and 'Blood Tears' are in the Orient Express-Casa Asia Section.

Among them, 'Antarctic Journal', written and directed by Yim Pil-sung, captures the tale of the mysterious deaths of six South Korean explorers during an expedition to reach one of the remotest points in the South Pole. Being praised as an impressive ending, the movie won the Orient Express-Casa Asia Section Best Feature Film Award. Last year, 'Ghost in the Shell 2' had the honor in the Orient Express-Casa Asia Section.

Earlier, South Korean movie star Lee Young-ae won the best actress award for her leading role in the recent release 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' that was invited to 'Official Fantastic' section. Meanwhile, 'A Bittersweet Life', starring popular actor Lee Byeng-heon, won the award for Best Original Soundtrack.
