Filmmakers Pledge to Fight Quota Cut

A group of film producers and actors have pledged to fight the planned cut in the domestic screen quota, blasting the move as an "anti-culture coup".

The Committee for Protection of the Screen Quota said Thursday that the government has sought equality and independence in its relations with the United States and diplomacy, but that the halving of the quota will impair cultural sovereignty.

Finance and Economy Minister Han Duck-soo announced earlier that the quota will be halved to 73 days from July to facilitate negotiations in the World Trade Organization and conclude free trade agreements.
