Filmmakers United to Protest Quota Cut

Actors and film industry figures have launched a week-long non-stop rally to protest the planned cut of the screen quota.
A committee on protecting the screen quota began the rally Wednesday evening with some 70 people attending, including film director Jung Ji-young, actors Ahn Sung-kee and Jung Jin-young and Korean Film Producers Association President Kim Heong-jun.
Actors and industry figures will rotate each day of the rally.
On the final day of the rally Wednesday, they will hold a one-day boycott of production activities and a massive demonstration in central Seoul.
The screen quota requires the country's theaters to screen domestic films one-hundred-46 days a year. The government last week announced a plan to halve the quota to 73 in July to pave the way for free trade talks with the United States.
