Films Flow at Cheonggye Stream

Seoulites and visitors alike who enjoy strolling along Cheonggye Stream can now appreciate a newly-added touch to the many cultural programs the waterway has offered since it was restored in 2005.
An outdoor movie screening venue set up near the city's old theater district is currently holding a film festival for teenagers.
Arirang's Kim Jiyoung takes us to the scene.
Cheonggye Stream runs through the middle of the capital, passing skyscrapers and cultural sites.
Since its opening 3 years ago, this eco-friendly stream has become the heart of downtown Seoul and a cooling point for people engaged in the everyday hustle and bustle.

[INTERVIEW : Yoon Jaesam, Cultural Division Chief of Seoul Metropolitan Govt.] "Especially for citizens whose workplaces are nearby, the stream is a place to rest and recharge. The city of Seoul is now working to give some cultural zest to the stream".

Seoul is working with organizers from the Seoul International Youth Film Festival to open a new outdoor movie theater right beneath Gwansu Bridge this week.
The bridge is also referred as the "bridge of film" because it's located right next to the theater district of Chungmuro.

[INTERVIEW : Han Taesik, Coordinator of Seoul Intl. Youth Film Festival] "Cheonggye stream represents freedom like the flow of water. So I believe this is the right place to express the purity and liveliness of teenagers".

At the opening, "Breeze", an animation made by students from Korea's Animation High School, was on the screen, depicting the story of two brothers in search of their mother.
With each month a different theme, teenager-made movies along with oldies but goodies will provide strollers a time to relax throughout the summer.

[INTERVIEW : Kathy Smalley, Australian tourist] "I really like the location, the venue under the bridge with stream rolling by is an excellent way of representing film and drama".

The films and calming nature of Cheonggye Stream are available under Gwansu Bridge at around 8 PM every night except Monday.

[REPORTER : Kim Jiyoung,jennie84@arirang.co.kr] "The theatre-turned space right under Gwansu Bridge will offer leisure time for busy Seoulites and also open up chances for people of different ages, as well as nationalities, to meet.
