" Empress Chung (Wanghu Simchong)" (Aug. 12)

Directed by Nelson Shin, this joint production of South and North Korea is based on a famous folk tale about a filial daughter who sacrifices herself for her blind father.

Government official Shim Hak-kyu is politically trapped and is on the verge of dying, when he accidentally looses his eyesight. At the same time, his family is on the verge of collapsing. Consequently, he leads a miserable life with his only daughter named Shim Chung to help him.

But his daughter grows into a bright, smart and kind woman and always does everything to help her father. And to cure him, she decides to sacrifice throwing herself into the ocean to be devoured by a monster.
