Foreign Diplomats Introduced to Korean Culture

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism held an event February 27 introducing traditional Korean culture to foreign diplomats stationed in Korea at the Seoul Walker Hill Hotel.

Some 40 foreign officials attended the event, named "The Han Style", including those from the United States, Japan, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, India and Turkey, as well as officials from foreign chambers of commerce stationed in Korea, and foreign journalists. They were introduced to Korean court cuisine, the traditional costume called "Hanbok", and traditional music.

Actress Ahn Mi-kyeong, who appeared in the popular TV drama "Jewel in the Palace" ("Dae Jang Geum"), and actor Choi Soo-jong, who plays the lead in the epic drama "Dae Jo Yeong", were named PR ambassadors of the event, and participated in a fashion show of hanbok designer Kim Hye-soon. Foreign diplomats had the rare opportunity to sample the beauty of traditional Korean culture thanks to court cuisine chef Park Young-hee, a traditional music performance staged by the National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts and the gayageum music group of Sukmyung Women's University, and a b-boy performance featuring traditional music.

The event is aimed at promoting the Korean alphabet, the Korean traditional costume, Korean-style houses and traditional music as cultural brands with the purpose of spreading, industrializing and globalizing Korean traditional cultural items.
