Former BIFF Director's New Role in Okinawa

Former Busan International Film Festival Kim Dong-ho has been appointed Honorary Chairman of the 3rd Okinawa International Film Festival. KIM who had been with the BIFF since its inception in 1996 is well known in Korea for his numerous publications and the international profile he has managed to create for Korea, Busan and Asian film in general through the festival that he helped to create. KIM also recently won the Outstanding Contribution to Asian Cinema Award at this year's Asia Film Awards in Hong Kong. In addition, joining KIM in Okinawa is LEE Yong-kwan, who shared directing duties with KIM at the BIFF where he still remains. LEE will head the jury in the competition section a role that KIM also used to serve.

Created in 2009 by entertainment company Yoshimoto Kogyo, the festival specializes in comedy films and also focuses on other content such as short films and commercials. This year the festival will also hold an event to raise funds for the Japanese Red Cross in light of the recent earthquake and subsequent tsunami to ravage the island nation. The Okinawa International Film Festival kicked off on March the 18th and wrapped up on the 27th.
