Four Korean films invited to Sundance

2003/12/16 | Permalink | Source

Two feature films, a short film and a documentary from Korea have been selected to screen in the 2004 Sundance Film Festival, which is scheduled to run from January 15 to 25 in Park City, Utah.

The feature films in the World Cinema section include IM Sang-soo's Venice contender A Good Lawyer's Wife and Kim Ki-duk's Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... And Spring, which has been selected as Korea's official entry in this year's Best Foreign Language Film Oscar category.

Acclaimed documentarist Kim Dong-won will also present his latest work A Repatriation in the noncompetitive World Documentary section. The film depicts a group of men who served long jail sentences after the Korean War for their communist beliefs, finally being released in the early 1990s and then repatriated to North Korea in 2001. The film debuted at the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival in October, and has received high praise from local critics.

Finally, PARK Jin-oh will present a short film in competition for the third consecutive year, following Lunch in 2002 and Request in 2003. His latest film Slowly, Quietly (literal translation) stars his wife, actress Song Chae-hwan. Park is the brother of filmmaker Park Jin-pyo, who directed Too Young To Die.
