Fourth Installment to Shoot

Sixteen years after Im Kwon-taek directed the third installment in his successful "The General's Son" trilogy, a fourth film has been announced, with director EO Il-seon attached. The original "The General's Son" was released in 1990 and was the most popular film that year and in 1991. IM's trilogy and upcoming feature are based on a novel by HONG Song-yu.

The film series tells the real-life story of KIM Du-han, a gangster and later a right-wing politician, during the Japanese occupation of Korea. KIM was the son a famous Freedom fighter named KIM Jwa-jin. Du-han's life has been dramatized in several film and TV series. The new project will take us back to the early years of Kim Du-han, starting around 1940 when he is just 20 years old.

Director EO debuted in 2003 with the Busan-set film "Plastic Tree". The feature won best new film at the Mannheim Heidelberg International Film Festival that year. The new project is being produced by Pine Tree Entertainment. Controversies surrounding the licensing of the title and franchise have been resolved and the film is scheduled to begin shooting in March 2009.
