Full 3-D Robot Mechanic Animation Film "Elysium"

"Elysium" a robotic battle between earth and an unknown planet in the future, had an unprecedented opening abroad and in Korea.

It made its debut by being selected as the 2002 SICAF opening piece. Domestic showings were delayed due to the poor business environment of Korea's theatre industry, but it received a warm welcome from foreign countries.

Elysium is a complete 3-D theatre animation film with Robot Mechanic as its main character. The film is the fruit of 4 years of production and a $3.75 million expenditure.

Massive battle scenes between robots, the love story between Mechanic and a ballerina, and every breath from the mouths of warriors are all delivered right in front of viewers?eyes through the application of today's most advanced technology.

The film's solemn yet stylish soundtrack is one of the factors that distinguish this film from others. Sebastian Schmidt, a famous composer who has worked with Ricky Martin and Santana on their albums, was put in charge of the music, and Oh Weon-cheol, recognizable for his work in Hwasango, Jungle Juice, Janghwa & Hongryeon, was named as the sound producer.

Elysium was shown in Russia in November, 2002, and it received the highest preference vote on an online poll; it also ranked No.2 in terms of audience numbers. Since Russia's popular rock group Snipers participated in the making of OST as well as in the dubbing process, the film attracted much attention. The film's DVD has been on sale since December, 2003.

The film has a theatre showing license in eleven countries including Morocco, France, Israel and Thailand. A Big Film representative says that on-going negotiations with Japan and the US should result in a profitable outcome by mid-February.

The film is expected to show all around the world this year with its launch in Italy on January 12. Opening schedules are being coordinated to match other regions.
