G-Dragon of boyband Big Bang has become the first Korean celebrity to ink a corporate endorsement contract with a Chinese company since China's unofficial boycott of Korea.

His agent YG Entertainment said Monday that G-Dragon signed the contract with Chinese beverage giant Nongfu Spring to advertise a new tea drink.

China imposed an unofficial boycott on Korean products and services in 2017 that quelled a craze in the world's most populous country for Korean pop and soap stars. G-Dragon's endorsement deal is raising hopes that it is finally coming to an end.

The company has already published ads online, creating much hype among Chinese users, and will install billboards across the nation soon.
