K-pop girl group Secret will attempt to tread in the highly successful footsteps of Girls' Generation and Kara by releasing their first single in Japan on Thursday.

"Secret are beginning their Japanese career by releasing the Japanese version of the first single 'Madonna'," said the band's management agency, TS Entertainment. The song was a hit in Korea upon its release here last August, with the accompanying music video quickly attracting one million hits on video-sharing site YouTube.

Secret may already have an inkling of their potential in Japan after showing signs of promise during their popular showcase in Tokyo on July 6. They have been touted as one of the leading successors to bands like Kara as they bid to keep the resurgent Korean Wave alive in the neighboring country.

"We plan to focus on showing the band's singing skill and quality songs that move the audience, rather than trying to attract fans with fancy dance moves or other eye-catching performance elements", said TS Entertainment.
