GirlGamer.com Writes on 'Ghost Watch' for Korean-Content.com

A sample character from the game.

This isn't your little brother's tactical card game. NCore's Ghost Watch, currently in development since 2009, is a unique combination of 3D animation, TCG, MMO and real-time battles.

Inspired by the British mockumentary of the same name, the Korean MMORG Ghost Watch was announced during GStar 2010 and anticipation is growing for its release this year. If you think this is going to involve a haunted house, though, think again. The most notable features of Ghost Watch include elements of tabletop RPGs, tactical card collecting and online interaction with other players.

LEGENDS REBORN

NCore has spared no detail in the origins of this online fantasy, creating a rich back story about how all creatures came to be, the world your characters live in and why you are called to battle. Your story begins in a paradise world created by immortal beings called Sakhrans; locked away in a dimension to protect themselves and their followers, the Guardians, from those who would destroy them in the outside world. Each Sakhran has its own portion of the land that it created, and its own culture. Athough the Sakhrans sacrificed themselves to protect you, whom they created, their souls remain dormant in the source of their life force, the Planastones (through which they continually reincarnate).

The Guardians revere their Sakrans and devote their lives to protecting this isolated world at all costs. In the land of The High Elf Sakhran Narsus, some dark elves accidentally discover a way out…thus opening a portal between your world and the corrupted, demonic world your Sakhrans had been protecting you from.

(You can read the whole story, as well as some interesting episodes on the official website.)

YOUR CALL TO WAR

Although the rules of TCG engagement remain the same, battles become more immersive as both sides duke it out in real time. (No more staring blankly at your opponent waiting for your turn!) Ghost Watchcombat works more like a game of online chess, except that you control your fate through strategic use of cards and treasures you've collected.

The artwork alone is fantastic; the game features work from a variety of artists worthy of any big-budget console title. When you play a card, your summoned creature manifests before you, animated in all its glory. Previews of this action reveal great-looking battle actions and magic effects for the players to enjoy.

COMING SOON

NCore hopes to launch the game in the North American market in 2011 with 500 different cards to collect, then adding 200 additional cards on a quarterly basis. Players will be able to meet in the village to form groups, trade cards, join competitions and socialize. You will also be able to choose dungeons to raid and quests to embark on. From there, your adventures are limited only by your imagination as you hunt for treasures and fight enemies, both AI and those controlled by other players.
