Girls' Generation to Carry on Without Jessica

2014/10/01 | 906 views | Permalink | Source

Girls' Generation will continue with eight members after the abrupt departure of Jessica.

The massively successful girl band's agency claims Jessica said she wanted to quit, but the starlet claims she was kicked out.

SM Entertainment on Tuesday said, "This spring, Jessica told us she wanted to stop being part of Girls' Generation for personal reasons after one more album".

But earlier the same day Jessica said on Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Twitter, "I was excited about our upcoming fan events only to be informed by my company and the eight others that as of today I'm no longer a member. I'm devastated -- my priority and love is to serve as a member of GG, but for no justifiable reason I am being forced out".

The eight others left for promotional events in China on Tuesday.

"Once Jessica started her own fashion business, it became impossible to maintain the band as it was, despite continued discussions on the matter", SM Entertainment said.

Jessica launched her fashion brand in August.

The company did not say whether the contract will be terminated but added, "We will continue to support Jessica in her own showbiz activities".

Girls' Generation have been at the forefront of the K-pop scene since their debut in 2007 with a string of hits like "Gee" and "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)".
